Kawai KG-5D s/n 1337491:

Purchased new in 1983 this 6’8″ Semi-Concert Grand piano is going to be surplused soon.

The model KG-5D is no longer being manufactured, but I did some research and the comparison model being manufactured today is the GX-5 and ranges in price from $30-40k.

I tuned and thoroughly cleaned the piano inside and out, including the key bed and soundboard, removing water stains from the sound board beneath the strings.  In the cleaning process I also located and removed a random screw that was hiding underneath the plate and causing unwanted rattling noises.

Minor blemishes include a small crack in the NON-SPEAKING section of the sound board.  It has no negative effect on the sound:

I didn’t get any pictures before cleaning the sound board (err!) but it looks spectacular now:

So there it is.  A very attractive piano, nice sounding, 6’8″ Kawai grand with a VERY stable tuning.  Great condition, very sturdy metal bench with padded seat, and fitted padded cover.

I have found comparables online for sale for as much as $13,000.
