Steinway has make big leaps and bounds in recent decades in order to maintain old-world craftsmanship while at the same time moving into a high-tech world of the 21st century – and have made some bold moves to maintain their reputation and security in the world of high end concert-level pianos.

To begin with in 1999 Steinway & Sons acquired their own state-of-the-art cast iron plate manufacturing company (O.S. Kelly) and 11 years later invested millions of dollars in upgrades to the factory. Also in 1999 Steinway purchased their own key manufacturing company (Kluge).

Now with the acquisition of one of the most highly regarded builders of piano action parts (Renner) they appear to be one of the best high-end piano manufacturers equipped to continue to dominate high-end piano manufacturing for decades to come.
